When I first started blogging, I used the phrase “j.goodin” often to describe the process of taking a look back at your past behavior, and seeing how you have changed, and are still changing, and still trying to change. That was the best I could say at the time, I guess.
This phrase has been thrown around a lot more since then, and is now used to describe any change in behavior, whether it’s a positive or negative. But this phrase is so simple it can be a game. It implies that you are looking for a negative change in yourself, and then you look for a positive change in your surroundings, and try to make yourself as happy as possible.
It’s easy to look for a positive change in yourself, but most people don’t look for it in their surroundings. They are so busy with their own lives that they are oblivious to the world around them.
This is the most common type of self-awareness I see when people see that they like a movie or book. The self-awareness is that they realize that the movie or book is just as good if not better than their own life. The change isnt in the movie or book, it is in how much fun they had to watch it.
You can change your surroundings, your life, or any other part of your life. It comes in different forms. As the definition states, self-awareness is the ability to know your own mind even when you’re not aware of it. Self-awareness is the ability to know our surroundings even when we’re not aware of them.
For me, the best way to explain self-awareness is in terms of the four different levels of self-awareness. In this way, we can see how it comes in different forms, but also how it can be acquired.
Level 1: Knowing your surroundings, specifically knowing your surroundings when you are unconscious of it.
Level One covers what is known as “probationary awareness.” As I mentioned earlier, when we’re on autopilot or unconscious of our surroundings, we don’t think about them. We just end up going through the motions, doing the things we need to do to get through the day. In other words, when we’re unconscious of our surroundings, we’re unaware of ourselves. We’re like a robot.
This is the state of not knowing how we got into that situation. A robot is basically a person that is no longer responsible for itself, meaning there can be no punishment for them. A robot is also in a state of autopilot. A person has to be in a state of not knowing how they got there, to be in a state of autopilot. They can’t be punished for making a mistake, because they have no control.
People who are in a state of autopilot like to talk about it as though it were something new, when really it is a very ancient principle. It’s an old way of thinking. People in a state of autopilot will talk about how they are in a state of autopilot, but they have no idea of what the word “autopilot” means. The first step to understanding the meaning of autopilot is to realize that it is a state that is not ours.
